New Layout

Here is the new layout (with the correct amount of exhibitors and concrete colour floor) exploring the visibility of the frames - which have been reduced in height since the prototype. A white powder coat finish should tighten them up - with only the bottom areas visible.

Steel Frame

A simple box section steel frame will hold the mannequin and support the X board.

Yield Spatial Design

Here are a series of visuals of the final (yes final) design proposal.

The details of some of the elements (stands for the display sheets, if / where screens go and how they are arranged) are still to be developed, but here you can get a good idea for the scale and size of the exhibition.

Excited about this development. It feel much more like a spatial arrangement, rather than lots of small distractions in a room.

Ramp Graphic Test

Rampsgraphictest

A visual test for the patterns which will be printed on each board.

This will illustrated the conversion of a 2D pattern in a 3D garment - which will be displayed on the mannequin.

Other graphic information (including the QR Codes) will be included on the panel.

Ramps

Slopes_test_render

Here is the latest render of the new design concept.

As previously we were trying to fit the components into our own laser cutter, the scale of the system was turning into a lego-esque exhibition system. The feeling was that this would compete with the actual exhibits themselves, which was also a fear when designing with the cardboard boxes / pixels. We decided to 'kill our darlings' and get rid of the laser-etched graphic (although we will colour match print to that of the cardboard honeycomb of the boards).

We are now using complete (near enough) sheets, and doing the minimal amount of manipulation to them. Maximum yield!

The concept now feels much more like and exhibition space that focuses on the work, rather than battling with the mode of delivery

Graphic elements to be added soon which will tie the whole design together.

X-Board Fabrication

Nice video of a company printing and converting X-Board in exhibition display.

Indirectly Inspired...

...by this design in the book: Designing Exhibitions by Birkhauser.

Gerbrand suggested the new format without seeing this image, but as it had caught my eye earlier, it just seemed right. It also will make great sense when the graphics become apparent.

Connector

Here you can see the square connector that works with the grid that would be cut into the horizontal surfaces.
